The suspension hasn’t been announced by Major League Baseball, but it’s expected to be Wednesday. The suspension is a result of him testing positive for a performance enhancing drug, which is his second offense.

His first offense came in 2012 when he tested positive for tamoxifen, and he served a 50-game suspension. MLB has established a three strikes and your out policy in baseball, so a third positive test result for Byrd will result in a lifetime ban.

The 38-year-old outfielder joined the Indians in the offseason and is hitting .270 with five home runs and 19 RBIs.

Byrd released a statement Wednesday afternoon.
